Privacy Policy
Perspectiv (perspectiv.ink) is a visual search engine for finding tattoo artists, operated by Perspectiv LLC ("Perspectiv", "we", "us"). This policy explains what data we collect, why, who we share it with, how long we keep it, and the choices you have. We keep it plain because it should be readable, not just compliant.
Who this policy covers
It covers everyone who uses perspectiv.ink: people searching for an artist, artists who are listed, and artists who sign in to claim and manage their profile. If you use the site you agree to this policy.
What we collect
Artist profile information. Perspectiv lists tattoo artists using publicly available information: an artist's public profile details (handle, display name, bio, and any contact or booking details they publish, such as a studio address or booking link) and the tattoo work they have made publicly available. We never access private accounts, private posts, direct messages, or anything behind a login.
Account data. When you sign in, our authentication provider (Google Firebase) stores your email address and a unique account ID so we can recognize you and link you to any profile you claim.
Instagram Login data. If you claim your artist profile with "Verify with Instagram", we use Instagram Login solely to confirm you control the handle. Through the instagram_business_basic permission we receive your Instagram user ID, username, account type, and basic profile details. We store only the user ID and username. We do not receive your password, we do not keep the access token after verification completes, and we never post, comment, message, or act on your behalf.
Profile edits. Anything a claimed artist adds or changes (booking link, location, guest spots, headline styles, hidden photos, a cover piece) is stored so the profile reflects their choices.
Search and usage data. To run search and make recommendations useful we store lightweight signals: the searches you run, styles you engage with, pieces you save, and preferences kept in your browser's local storage. Our servers also keep standard request logs (IP address, browser type, timestamps) for security, rate limiting, and debugging. We run first-party analytics events only; we do not use third-party advertising trackers.
Reference images you upload. If you search with a photo, the image is used to run that search and is not added to the public index.
Correspondence. If you email us, we keep the message so we can respond and keep a record of requests such as removals.
How we use it
- Search. Match what you describe, or a reference image, to artists whose work fits.
- Automated image analysis. Tattoo images are analysed by machine-learning models to describe their subject and style, to filter out images that are not tattoos, to compute similarity vectors for search, and to estimate colour palettes. This processing runs on infrastructure we operate or rent from computing providers. It produces labels and numbers used for search; it does not make decisions with legal or similarly significant effects about anyone.
- Attribution. Every result links back to the artist's profile and their Instagram.
- Verification. Confirm that the right person controls each claimed profile.
- Recommendations and quality. Improve ranking and the quality of the index.
- Communication. Send artists transactional email about their page (for example a claim link) and, occasionally, marketing email about Perspectiv with a one-click unsubscribe in every message.
- Safety and legal. Prevent abuse, enforce our terms, and comply with law.
What we do not do
- We do not sell personal data, and we do not sell or license anyone's artwork.
- We do not claim rights to any artist's work. It stays theirs, credited to them.
- We do not use Instagram Login to post, comment, or message as you, and we never use data received from Instagram for advertising or share it with anyone other than the service providers below.
- We do not run third-party advertising trackers.
Who we share it with
We share data only as needed to operate Perspectiv, with these categories of service providers, each bound to process it only on our instructions:
- Hosting and compute (the web app, the API, and the GPU capacity that runs our image-analysis models)
- Storage and content delivery for images and thumbnails
- Database hosting
- Authentication (Google Firebase)
- Model inference providers used for image description and text understanding
- Email delivery for transactional and marketing messages
- Data and API providers used to retrieve publicly available profile information
We may also disclose information if required by law, to protect the rights and safety of users or the public, or as part of a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, in which case this policy continues to apply.
Data received from Instagram
For artists who verify with Instagram Login, the data we receive from Meta is limited to what the instagram_business_basic permission returns. We use it only to prove ownership of a profile and to keep that link current. We keep your Instagram user ID and username for as long as your profile stays linked. If you remove Perspectiv in your Instagram settings, Instagram notifies us and we delete that data immediately. You can also request deletion at any time (see below). We never share it with third parties beyond the service providers above, and we never use it for advertising.
How long we keep it
- Artist profile information stays in the index while the profile is listed. Ask and we will remove it.
- Account data is kept for as long as your account exists.
- Instagram Login data is deleted immediately when you deauthorize Perspectiv or ask us to unlink.
- Search and usage signals are kept while they are useful for recommendations, and browser-stored preferences stay on your device until you clear them.
- Server logs are kept for a short, limited period for security and debugging.
- Deletion requests are completed within 30 days, subject to any retention the law requires.
Your choices and rights
- Artists: whether or not you have claimed your profile, email us from your account or with your handle and we will remove your profile, no questions asked. Claimed artists can also hide individual photos and edit their details directly.
- Instagram data: remove Perspectiv under Instagram Settings → Apps and Websites, or use our data deletion page.
- Account: email us to delete your account and everything associated with it.
- Email: every marketing message carries a one-click unsubscribe.
- Access, correction, portability: you can ask what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask for a copy. Depending on where you live (for example the EU/UK under GDPR, or California under the CCPA) you may have these rights by law; we honour them for everyone. We do not sell personal data, so there is nothing to opt out of on that front, and we will not discriminate against you for exercising a right.

Cookies and browser storage
We use browser storage for sign-in state, your saved pieces, and preferences such as a remembered location and the styles you engage with. Our authentication provider sets the cookies or tokens it needs to keep you signed in. We do not set third-party advertising cookies.
Security
Data is transmitted over HTTPS and stored with access limited to the systems and people that need it. No method of storage or transmission is perfectly secure, and we will notify you as required by law if a breach affects your data.
Where data is processed
Perspectiv LLC is based in the United States and processes data there. If you use the service from elsewhere, you understand your data is transferred to and processed in the United States.
Children
Perspectiv is not directed to anyone under 18 and we do not knowingly collect their data. If you believe a minor has provided data to us, email us and we will delete it.
Changes
We may update this policy as the product evolves. Material changes will be reflected here with a new effective date, and we will give notice on the site where the change warrants it.
